Download: Blu – “Jesus”

This Madlib-produced song is the title track from the best hip-hop album I’ve heard all year, Jesus from Blu. Messy, grimy, raw, the best of MF Doom’s early work and Madlib’s innovative production. Download here.

Film Review: Circumstance

Read my review of Circumstance for Paste Magazine. It’s quite possibly the best Iranian lesbian film I’ve ever seen.

Video: Bleeding Knees Club – “Have Fun”

Snotty, young, Aussie garage rock for you from Bleeding Knees Club.

Download: Jacuzzi Boys – “Cool Vapors”

Great band names don’t always equal great songs, but Jacuzzi Boys are onto something with this garage-y number. Listen to “Cool Vapors” here.

Download: Holy Sons – “A Chapter Must Be Closed”

Listen to Holy Sons’ new song, “A Chapter Must Be Closed,” here, and just think about how this is gonna contrast with Malkmus‘ peppy prog-rock on the upcoming tour he’ll be supporting on.

Video: Soft Metals – “Voices”

Soft Metals’ new video for “Voices” is supposedly influenced by Dario Argento’s work, but just listen to the damn music.

Download: Cass McCombs – “The Same Thing”

Listen to the latest from Cass McCombs here, a track called “The Same Thing” that will appear on his new album, Humor Risk, out this November on Domino. It’s a lovely, depressing rock tune for a lovely, sunny day from this talented singer/songwriter/frequent Modest Mouse tourmate.

Live Review: Black Moon at Southpaw

Last night, Black Moon performed Enta Da Stage in its entirety with a live band, and you can read my Village Voice review of this great show here.

Nas speaking on Illmatic. Not one mention of Serch. Come on.

New Releases: The Misfits – The Devil’s Rain

What constitutes The Misfits these days will release a new album this October called The Devil’s Rain. The band now consists of Jerry Only on vocals and bass, Black Flag’s Dez Cadena on guitar, and Eric Arce on drums. Glenn Danzig must be spinning in his grave (which he probably has reconstructed in his Hollywood Hills mansion).
