Tosca – “My First”

Let’s all relax for a little bit, after all the excitement of the previous posts….

Congorock – “Runark”

Download the new Congorock single right here:

Runark

This is nice and fun and interesting because it is not slicked out house and it isn’t some Diplo mashup shit. It’s just grimy, sweaty, ass-shaking, eye-socket-bulging, bass-filled techno. Go ahead, it feels good.

Tiny Masters of Today

News flash: Brooklyn tweens are being exploited!!! Amber alert!!! Tiny Masters of Today are two kids making fuzzy garage rock that sounds a whole lot more calculated than it is and have an album, Skeletons, coming out on Mute in June. And they’re already getting reworked, remixed, and helped out by the YYY’s, CSS, and Kimya Dawson. I’m shocked and appalled.

Listen here.

Odd Nosdam – T.I.M.E. Soundtrack

Any Anticon fans in the house? Over there, in the back? Odd Nosdam’s got a new album coming out this March, a soundtrack for an Element Skateboards film. Read my review here.

Listen: Fly Mode

Bibio – Vignetting the Compost

Bibio’s latest, Vignetting the Compost (Mush), is out now. His mix of electronic and field recordings is similar to Boards of Canada, but he leaves the beats behind. Read my review here.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – “Zero” Stream

There’s been some hullabaloo about the wrong YYY’s song being posted on various blogs, but here’s the right one. It’s called “Zero,” it’s from their new album (It’s a Blitz) due out in April, and you can stream it here:

Zero

Hmmm… sounds like The Cure and The Pretenders had a cute little baby.

Pigeon John and Flynn Adam are Rootbeer

West Coast hip-hop mainstay Pigeon John and some dude named Flynn Adam are joining forces as Rootbeer. They will release their debut EP, The Pink Limousine, on March 10, and hit the road for some tour dates. What’s it gonna sound like? Straight from the horse’s mouth: “MGMT injected with some N.E.R.D. and A Tribe Called Quest.”

Red Red Meat – Bunny Gets Paid (Reissue)

The members of Red Red Meat have moved onto bigger and arguably better things – Califone, Brian Deck’s production work (Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine) – but they were one of the best Chicago bands of the 1990s. Sub Pop will reissue Bunny Gets Paid this March 24th, and the band is getting back together for a bunch of shows this spring. Listen to some music here:

J. Dilla – Dillanthology Vol. 1

On March 31, Rapster Records will release Dillanthology Vol. 1, the first in a series celebrating the late, great producer’s work. I’m sure you already have these tracks on their individual albums, but taken all together, it looks pretty good. The tracklist:

1) The Pharcyde – “Runnin’”
2) Slum Village – “Fall In Love”
3) Common – “The Light”
4) Erykah Badu – “Didn’t Cha Know”
5) De La Soul – “Stakes Is High”
6) Busta Rhymes – “Show Me What You Got”
7) The Roots – “Dynamite”
8) A.G. feat. Aloe Blacc – “Hip Hop Quotable”
9) The Pharcyde – “Drop”
10 Amp Fiddler – “I Believe In You”
11) Steve Spacek – “Dollar”

Japanese Motors to Open for Modest Mouse

I saw Japanese Motors play at the LA Weekly Detour Festival this fall, and I wondered then what all the fuss was about. Still, they get to open for Modest Mouse and I don’t. Check out the tour dates here. Also, they’ve got a new EP coming out on Vice on March 3 called Perception of Reality.

Mr. Oizo – Lambs Anger

Mr. Oizo’s latest, Lambs Anger (Ed Banger), does justice to Justice. Hardcore, fun, wicked techno, anyone? Yes, please. Read my review here.

M. Ward – Hold Time

I recently interviewed M. Ward for a story for Spinner.com. Read it here. He wouldn’t give up much about the progress of the forthcoming She & Him record, but it’s a bit early for that.

March 4 – The Deli Third Issue Release Party @ The Roxy

If you’re not doing anything on March 4th and you like local music magazines, do go check out The Deli’s third issue release party at the Roxy. They’ve corralled a few bands to help out: Electrocute, AM, Django James and the Midnight Squires, Daniel Ahearn, and Correatown. Price is 10 bucks.

Fever Ray – “When I Grow Up” Video

Watch this new video from The Knife’s better half, Fever Ray. It’s tense and hypnotic and I can’t wait to hear this album.
