Congorock – “Runark”

This is nice and fun and interesting because it is not slicked out house and it isn’t some Diplo mashup shit. It’s just grimy, sweaty, ass-shaking, eye-socket-bulging, bass-filled techno. Go ahead, it feels good.
Tiny Masters of Today
Posted: February 26, 2009 Filed under: Music Musings, New Releases | Tags: Tiny Masters of Today 2 CommentsNews flash: Brooklyn tweens are being exploited!!! Amber alert!!! Tiny Masters of Today are two kids making fuzzy garage rock that sounds a whole lot more calculated than it is and have an album, Skeletons, coming out on Mute in June. And they’re already getting reworked, remixed, and helped out by the YYY’s, CSS, and Kimya Dawson. I’m shocked and appalled.
Listen here.

Posted: February 25, 2009 Filed under: Music Musings | Tags: Yeah Yeah Yeahs Leave a commentThere’s been some hullabaloo about the wrong YYY’s song being posted on various blogs, but here’s the right one. It’s called “Zero,” it’s from their new album (It’s a Blitz) due out in April, and you can stream it here:
Hmmm… sounds like The Cure and The Pretenders had a cute little baby.

They will release their debut EP, The Pink Limousine, on March 10, and hit the road for some tour dates. What’s it gonna sound like? Straight from the horse’s mouth: “MGMT injected with some N.E.R.D. and A Tribe Called Quest.”
Red Red Meat – Bunny Gets Paid (Reissue)
Posted: February 25, 2009 Filed under: Music Musings, New Releases | Tags: Red Red Meat Leave a commentThe members of Red Red Meat have moved onto bigger and arguably better things – Califone, Brian Deck’s production work (Modest Mouse, Iron & Wine) – but they were one of the best Chicago bands of the 1990s. Sub Pop will reissue Bunny Gets Paid this March 24th, and the band is getting back together for a bunch of shows this spring. Listen to some music here:

Still, they get to open for Modest Mouse and I don’t. Check out the tour dates here. Also, they’ve got a new EP coming out on Vice on March 3 called Perception of Reality.

M. Ward – Hold Time
Posted: February 20, 2009 Filed under: New Releases, Published Work | Tags: M. Ward Leave a commentI recently interviewed M. Ward for a story for Spinner.com. Read it here. He wouldn’t give up much about the progress of the forthcoming She & Him record, but it’s a bit early for that.
